Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant skincare ingredient used for brightening, evening skin tone and supporting collagen. It is commonly used in the morning, where its antioxidant action complements sunscreen.
Topical vitamin C has reasonable evidence for antioxidant protection, brightening and supporting collagen, though formulation stability is a real challenge (it degrades with light and air), so product quality and packaging matter more than for many ingredients.
Generally well tolerated, though higher concentrations can irritate sensitive skin. Degraded or oxidised product (often turning brown) is less effective and can be more irritating.
Rarely needed for a topical antioxidant. If you have very reactive or a diagnosed skin condition, introduce actives one at a time and consider dermatologist input.
Moderate to higher, as stable formulations cost more. Proper packaging (opaque, air-tight) is worth prioritising.
