Quercetin is a plant flavonoid found in foods like onions, apples and berries, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. In longevity contexts it has drawn interest as a senolytic, a compound theorised to help clear senescent (aged, dysfunctional) cells, often studied alongside fisetin.
Quercetin's antioxidant properties are well characterised in the lab. Its senolytic potential is an area of genuine but early research, largely preclinical and in small human pilot studies. The longevity claims are ahead of robust human evidence, and dietary quercetin differs from high-dose supplemental forms.
Generally well tolerated at dietary and moderate supplemental levels. High doses can interact with certain medications, including some antibiotics and blood thinners, and long-term high-dose safety is less established.
If you take prescription medication, particularly blood thinners or antibiotics, check for interactions before high-dose quercetin. The senolytic longevity use is experimental, not established, and should not replace proven health measures.
