Ubiquinol is the more readily absorbed, active form of Coenzyme Q10, a compound cells use for energy production and antioxidant defence. It is favoured over the standard ubiquinone form particularly by older adults, whose ability to convert between the forms may decline.
As with CoQ10 generally, evidence is strongest for specific contexts such as statin-associated muscle symptoms (mixed) and certain heart conditions under medical care. The ubiquinol form is chosen for absorption, especially in older adults, rather than a distinct proven advantage in outcomes.
Generally well tolerated. Can mildly affect blood thinners and blood pressure medication.
If you take statins with muscle symptoms, or take blood thinners or blood pressure medication, discuss CoQ10 with a doctor before adding it.
Moderate to higher, sold as a monthly supply. Ubiquinol costs more than ubiquinone.
