Ashwagandha (KSM-66)

Ashwagandha is an adaptogenic herb used in traditional medicine, now popular for stress, anxiety and sleep. KSM-66 is a specific, well-studied standardised extract, which is why it is often specified on labels.

Ashwagandha has a reasonable and growing body of human trials suggesting benefits for stress and anxiety symptoms and possibly sleep, with the KSM-66 extract being among the better-studied forms. Effects are modest rather than dramatic, and study quality varies.

Generally well tolerated short-term. It can affect thyroid hormone levels, which matters for anyone with thyroid conditions, and there have been rare reports of liver issues. It may not be suitable during pregnancy. Long-term safety data is limited.

If you have a thyroid condition (it can raise thyroid hormone levels), are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a liver condition, or take sedative or thyroid medication, speak to a doctor before use. Persistent anxiety deserves proper assessment rather than relying on a supplement.

Moderate, sold as a monthly supply. KSM-66 branded products may cost slightly more.
